How We Got Here
Communities across western South Dakota were losing access to reliable senior meal services.
Local leaders, seniors, and partners began reaching out and asking for help.
So we stepped in.
In just months, ICAP expanded into western South Dakota, building a network of local partners, volunteers, and meal providers to ensure seniors didn’t go without.
This isn’t just a program.
It’s a commitment.

For Western South Dakota, where distance, weather, and transportation can create real challenges, we provide flexible, high-quality meal options that meet seniors where they are.
Meal Options Available in Western South Dakota
Home-Delivered Meals
For seniors who are homebound or unable to travel, meals are delivered directly to their residence. Drivers and volunteers provide not only a meal, but also a safety check and moment of connection.
Frozen Meal Packs (Heat & Eat)
Our frozen meals are a practical and popular option in Western SD communities.
Why Frozen Meals?
Western South Dakota spans rural and remote areas where:
- Daily delivery routes aren’t always possible
- Weather conditions can limit access
- Seniors often live miles from the nearest meal site
- Schedules vary and flexibility is needed
Our frozen meal packs allow seniors to:
- Store meals safely for the week
- Heat and eat at their convenience
- Maintain nutrition even during storms or travel restrictions
Frozen meals are flash-frozen for taste and quality, developed to meet senior dietary needs, and packaged for easy reheating in the oven or microwave.
Meals are prepared at the ICAP culinary facility, Dakota Kitchen, located in Madison, SD.
Who Is Eligible?
Any South Dakota resident:
- 60 years of age or older, and
- Their spouse of any age
- A caregiver providing meal support to an eligible senior
There are:
- No income requirements
- No health or medical requirements
- No obligation to donate
Cost of Meals
There is no set charge for meals.
We encourage a suggested donation of $5 per meal, which helps support the program.
Seniors may give more if they are able, and no one is ever turned away for inability to donate.
