What is 60’s Plus Dining? Expand

60’s Plus Dining is an adult meal program serving quality nutritious meals to any person aged 60 or over, and their spouses.

Where is 60’s Plus Dining Availabe? Expand

60’s Plus Dining Program is located in many locations throughout our 10 county service area. In East Central South Dakota, these counties include: Brookings, Codington, Clark, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Kingsbury, Lake, Miner, and Moody.

Who is eligible? Expand

Any resident of South Dakota, aged 60 or older, as well as their spouse or care giver are eligible.

How many meals do I qualify for? Expand

Currently we do not limit client meals.

Are there income or health requirements? Expand

There are no income or health requirements to participate.

What are Congregate Meals? Expand

Congregate meals are offered for lunch Monday through Friday, at senior centers, cafés, and apartment complexes throughout our service area. A variety of balanced meals, mostly comfort foods, are served in a group setting to provide quality nutrition, and socialization.

What are Star Card Meals? Expand

Star Card sites are fast becoming the choice of the newest generation of clients. Meals, such as breakfast, lunch and supper, are available depending on the location’s hours of operation, and menu selection. A pre-paid meal card is purchased from one of our volunteers, or site managers. Clients have the freedom and flexibility to eat at a time and location of their choosing.

What are Home Delivered meals? Expand Also known as Meals on Wheels,
Home Delivered hot meals are provided Monday through Friday to clients who are unable to travel to, or meet at, our congregate or star card locations. A visit from one of our volunteers, offering a hot nutritious meal, often is the only social contact that many of our homebound clients receive each day, helping ease the problem of isolation.

 

What are Frozen meals? Expand

Frozen Meals are available to any of our clients throughout our 10 county service area. Quality, balanced, nutritious meals, are flash frozen in specialty sealed containers. These can be heated in a microwave, or oven, and provide one third of daily recommended nutrition amounts. Frozen meals are an option for clients who cannot travel to one of our Congregate, or Star Card locations, and Home Delivery is not available. It is also a great option for any clients who need convenience, and wish to have meals ready to heat and enjoy at home.

How much does it cost? Expand

Our minimum suggested donation is currently $5.00 per meal. Many clients who can afford to, choose to donate a little extra to help support meals for those who are less fortunate.

What if someone needs it more than me? Expand

By participating in the 60’s Plus Dining Program, you will be helping to keep our network strong and active in your community. Your donation is needed to help provide services to those clients who are our most at risk, frail, and in need.

Can I purhase meals for a loved one? Expand

It is common for loved ones to purchasing services for a family member. For more information on how, contact the Site Manager, in or near your community.

How can I help? Expand

The best ways to help are to participate, donate, and advocate. Participation keeps our program strong, and gives a social connection to other clients. Donations can be made with funds or by volunteering time. We need help delivering meals in many of our communities. Lastly be an advocate for the program by educating your friends and neighbors of the importance of nutrition and socialization.

Offering Congregate, Home Delivered, Star Card, and Frozen Meals, there is an option that is right for every person 60 or older.
